Weather Story Thanksgiving

The Iowa State Patrol reports that area roadways are snow and ice covered and may be slick. There are reports of numerous vehicles in ditches throughout the county last night and into the morning hours.

State and County plows are in operation. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt says that if you must travel today, keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, and take extra time to get to your destination. Please give our road and emergency crews plenty of room to work.

The National Weather Service reports that between two and four inches of snow have fallen in Marion County. Temperatures will be cold today with highs near 10 above north to the lower 20s south. Southerly winds will develop overnight with rising temperatures expected after midnight. Friday will be warmer with highs in the lower 30s north to lower 40s south. Moisture from melting snow will lead to areas of fog Friday night into early Saturday. The fog may become dense at times. Even warmer conditions are forecast Saturday with southern Iowa reaching the 50s. The fog and clouds may linger over the northeast which would limit high temperatures.
