Rep. Greg Heartsill thanking voters after being declared the winner of the District 28 race Tuesday night

After months of campaigning, a winner has been decided in the District 28 State Representative race.

Incumbent Republican Greg Heartsill was declared the winner of Tuesday’s election over Democratic challenger Megan Suhr. Heartsill earned 60 percent of the vote in Marion, Jasper, and Lucas Counties while Suhr earned 40 percent.

Heartsill says he’s grateful for the results and feels his constituents have liked what he’s been doing as their representative. He says now the real work begins as he prepares for the legislative session in January.

Voter turnout in Marion County was just over 54 percent.
