Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation

The Dollars For Scholars organization in Knoxville has decided to go independent.

President Curt Froyen says the organization has ended their affiliation with Scholarship America and has changed their name to the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation.

Froyen says the reason to end their more than a decade long affiliation with Dollars for Scholars and Scholarship America was due  to the program being more intrusive over recent years with requests for recipient acceptance confirmation and private donor information, a significant increase in administrative procedures and affiliate dues, and the realization that most financial aid offices accept the organizations awards like any other scholarship.

The foundation has given out nearly three-quarters of a million dollars in scholarships since starting in 2002.

Froyen says most daily operations with the organization won’t change at all.
