Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont flexed their collective volleyball muscles last night and overpowered Pella Christian, 25 – 14, 25 – 15, and 25 – 12 in the semifinals of the Class 2A regional tournament. The ill-effects of the absence of Andrea Horstman were felt early, as the Eagles appeared to struggle with chemistry from the start. Coach Cindy Nikkel says they had a lot of scrambling to do to prepare for the Rockets. The Eagles had no answer for Rockets junior, Karlie Taylor, who unofficially had 11 kills on the night. Rebecca Gritters and Christa Veenstra each had four for Pella Christian, and Rachel Tvedt had three aces to highlight the Eagles’ night statistically. The Eagles finish the season 24 – 12, and they lose seven seniors from their varsity squad.
