The Pella Police Department was busy after an uptick in traffic accidents left one person in the hospital and two cars totaled on Monday.

Lt. Paul Haase tells KNIA/KRLS news that the department responded to five accidents throughout the day, including one before 2 p.m. that saw both drivers injured at the intersection of East 3rd and University. One driver was transported with minor injuries to Pella Regional via Pella Ambulance. The second major wreck happened at 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of G28 and West 15th Street, where the Highway 163 off-ramp ends. Haase says the accident was caused by one vehicle pulling out from a stop sign into oncoming traffic. Traffic at both scenes was slowed down for nearly an hour apiece.
