The scoreboard inside of the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium in Pella was getting a workout in Saturday’s doubleheader between Central and Martin Luther. The women came out victorious, 71 – 62, despite trailing at half and missing some key players out with injuries. The Dutch were behind by five at intermission and the game was tied at 42, before Mariah Swartzentruber put in back-to-back triples to give her team a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Rachel Evans scored a team-high 15 points to lead the way for Central. On the men’s side, they put up a record-tying 11 three-pointers in the first half, and made a school record 20 for the game in a 109 – 50 blitzing of the Knights. Nate Munn was Central’s leading scorer for the game, with 17 bench points, and Colby Taylor had a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Central’s bench outscored Martin Luther 55 – 13 in the men’s game, and in total for the doubleheader, 87 – 18. Both Dutch squads are 5 – 1; the men play down in Missouri against Westminster on Tuesday, and the women head to Des Moines to face AIB on Wednesday.
