Central’s women’s and men’s basketball teams did not have the greatest of weekends. The women fell at home to Augustana, 58 – 55. The Dutch stayed close with the Vikings, and trailed by seven with under 30 seconds to play, but had a chance to tie with a final shot thanks to a furious rally spurred by great defense. Central’s top two scorers came off the bench, with Rachel Evans scoring 16 and Kaitlin Stump putting in 13. Central’s women are now 6 – 2. The men, after knocking off St. Ambrose on Friday, went ice cold from beyond the arc in a 73 – 46 loss to Mount Mercy on Saturday. The Dutch were 2-of-16 from three-point range in the first half, and 0-of-18 in the final 20 minutes and finished with a lowly 25% field goal percentage for the game. Aaron Rosenstiel was the only Dutch in double figures with 13 points. Central’s men also drop to 6 – 2; they will join back up with the women after finals week for a Friday doubleheader in St. Louis against Webster.
