A Knoxville police officer killed in the line of duty over 76 years ago will be honored in Washington D.C. next year.

The name of Officer Marion Albert “Bert” Conrey will be added to the Law Enforcement Memorial Wall. Officer Conrey died on April 2nd, 1938, at the age of 56, as a result of injuries sustained during an assault by a couple on St. Patrick’s Day two week’s earlier.

Officer Conrey served the Knoxville Police Department for 23 years and was actually kidnapped in January 1933 by a group who robbed a Missouri bank, among which was a member of the Dillinger Gang.

Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada, who submitted Conrey’s name to the memorial wall, is asking for the public’s help in finding a photo of Officer Conrey so that he can be given a proper memorial here in Knoxville.

Officer Conrey will join more than 20,000 law enforcement members on the Law Enforcement Memorial Wall during an official dedication on Law Enforcement Memorial Day, Wednesday, May 13th.
