A not guilty plea was entered by a Knoxville man accused of shooting another person in the head.

59-year-old Ricky Lee Hyatt has been charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony, and Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury, a Class C felony.

Knoxville Police were called to the 900 block of North Roche Street on October 23rd and discovered Hyatt was connected with person who was being treated at Knoxville Hospital and Clinic’s Emergency Room for a gunshot wound to the head. According to court documents, Hyatt repeatedly told police “I shot him,” after they arrived.

The victim, identified in court records as 28-year-old Sean Vrban, was taken to a Des Moines hospital for surgery and has begun his recovery.

A trial date for Hyatt has been set for January 9th.
