Comprised of various U.S. Division III football stars, including Central seniors, Team Stars and Stripes fell to a team of Mexican football all-stars on Saturday’s “Bowl of the Stars” in Mexico, 31 – 17. Brendon Boerm and Jack Norgaard each had touchdown receptions, while Josh Osborn was the game’s leading rusher, gaining 80 yards on 16 carries. Mexico’s quarterback, Norman Contla, was unstoppable, completing 40 of his 52 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns. Aaron Eiseler saw some playing time for Team Stars and Stripes, going 9-for-22 at the QB position with an interception and a touchdown. Dutch kicker, Kevin Sheldon, was able to convert on both of his extra point attempts. This was the first loss for defensive coordinator, Don De Waard, as head coach of Team Stars and Stripes, in his three games he’s been able to lead said squad. Defensive back, Jacob Tune, was named the Ron Schipper Most Valuable Traveler for his performance in the Bowl of the Stars, snaring a game-high nine tackles, and had a fumble recovery for Team Stars and Stripes.
