The road to the postseason begins tonight for the Central women’s and men’s basketball teams. The Dutch are northeast of their friendly confines to take on Dubuque for their 2014-15 Iowa Conference opener. The Spartan women enter with a 6 – 5 record, and have spent a majority of their non-conference schedule in Wisconsin playing stiff competition. Central’s defense will face the task of stopping three players averaging double figures in points and a team that’s put up nearly 77 points per game. The Dutch men begin their journey towards defending their conference championship from a year ago, a feat that hasn’t happened since 1993 – 95. The Spartans were one of the front runners picked for a league title, and Coach Craig Douma says Dubuque brings back loads of experience and talented players. Tonight’s doubleheader in Dubuque will tip-off the women’s game first at 6:00 p.m.
