Back-to-back sweeps in the Iowa Conference have sent the Central men’s and women’s basketball teams reeling and looking for a pair of victories this afternoon against Coe. The Kohawk women enter 11 – 5 overall and 3 – 1 in conference play, thanks to some sharp defense that has stifled opponents to 63 points per game up to this point. The Dutch come in fresh off of their fourth loss by three points this season to Buena Vista in OT on Wednesday. Central’s men are 2 – 3 in the league, and their sharp-shooting offense may encounter some problems against Coe, who sits at 4 – 1 in the Iowa Conference, and have allowed only 59 points per league game this season. One big factor for Central has been the stymied production of sophomore Colby Taylor, who, after being named Iowa Conference male athlete of the week after 59 points and 20 rebounds in the first two games of the conference slate, has come up with just 26 points and 31 rebounds in their last three. Coach Craig Douma says it’s a mental issue that both the coaching staff and Taylor himself need to address. Today’s doubleheader inside the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS and KNIAKRLS.com, with Cory Houser and Jacob Dreyer perched in the loft. Pre-game coverage is slated to begin at 1:45 p.m.
