Coming home for another pair of conference games, the Central men’s and women’s basketball teams could not protect their court and were swept by Coe on Saturday, in a doubleheader that was live on 92.1 KRLS. Coe’s women downed the Dutch, 62 – 52, despite Central forcing 17 Kohawk turnovers while committing just nine themselves. Kenzie Vander Molen scored 19, while Mariah Swartzentruber dumped in 14 while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Central’s men went through a long cold spell in the second half of their game, took Coe to overtime, before falling, 80 – 73. Central was up by seven with about 12 minutes left to play, and did not score a point until there was just 3:49 left in regulation. Colby Taylor snapped his dry spell and scored 22 points to lead the Dutch. Central’s men and women are now 9 – 8 on the season overall; the men are 2 – 4 in the league while the women are 0 – 6. Each team heads to Indianola on Wednesday for another conference doubleheader.
