Pella Superintendent Greg Ebeling echoes the sentiment of Knoxville Superintendent Cassie Murra and many other administrators across the state when it comes to school budget numbers recently proposed by the state government.
He feels the 1.25% increase discussed by the Iowa House and Governor Branstad is too low of a number for Supplemental State Aid. Ebeling says an increase at that rate would likely result in significant budget cuts for most school districts, and would only compound the problem of declining enrollment in the Pella Community School District. He says there is almost always an annual increase in cost to operate districts, including staff, insurance, and cost of living rate increases.
