Knoxville City Council
The first steps of adopting a new fire code in Knoxville have been taken.

The Knoxville City Council held a public hearing last week to adopt the 2009 International Fire Code and voted for the ordinance.
The current city code, the 1994 Uniform Fire Code, is tighter and more restrictive than the 2009 code, according to Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart. He says the 2009 version is more flexible even though it has more requirements than the 1994 code.
Stewart says the ordinance will need two more readings by the city council before it’s officially adopted.
