The Knoxville Girls Basketball goal of winning the South Central Conference title after nearly 20 years away from the conference has been attained as the Panthers defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont last night 54-39. The game was very physical, however the Knoxville defense keyed the win forcing 21 Rocket turnovers and holding them to just 34% shooting. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS sports even though they are conference champions, they want to run the table in the South Central Conference. Carrie Chambers led a balanced Panther attack with 13 points. Knoxville is now 15-1 on the season and 11-0 in the South Central Conference with a chance to go unbeaten Friday night against Centerville. The boys saw a 17 point lead in the third quarter dissolve to one, however the Panthers made plays down the stretch to win 79-73. Knoxville was led by Nathan Winters and his 17 points on the night. Knoxville improves to 11-4 on the season and pulls even with Chariton on top of the South Central Conference at 9-2.
