The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad’s first trip back to the South Central Conference will result in a title. The Panthers clinched no worse than a share of the conference title with a 61-28 thrashing of Chariton on Saturday during the Annual Coaches vs. Cancer event. The Panthers shot the ball poorly but made up with lock down defense not allowing Chariton into double figures in any quarter. Assistant Coach Jason Carter told KNIA/KRLS Sports defense was yet again the key to success for the girls. Meredith Cunningham led the Panthers and all scorers with 19 points, Knoxville is now 14-1 on the season and 10-0 in the South Central Conference with a chance to clinch the outright title Tuesday at Eddyville-Blakebsurg. The boys knew they would be in for a battle with Chariton. And the Chargers did not disappoint, shooting lights out and defeated Knoxville 75-59. Knoxville was led by Trent Davis’ 13 points. Knoxville is just a half game behind Chariton and can still claim a share of the conference title by winning out in their final two games.
