For the first time since they faced rivals Pella in December, both of the Pella Christian Eagles basketball teams are playing a conference opponent after a Little Hawkeye Conference Victory.
The 9-4 boys and 8-6 girls from Pella Christian High swept their first doubleheader against Newton Friday since both groups beat Oskaloosa at home in December. Boys head coach Larry Hessing says they don’t expect anything to come easy for the remainder of the regular season, and this Indians squad is no exception.
“I know that they’ve been a little up and down, and maybe some of that is related to the challenging competition you can find in this conference,” Hessing says. “We expect to be challenged big time when we head to Oskaloosa.”
Girls head coach Kevin Van Maanen hopes that the team will continue to drum up some of its early season rhythm with a healthy Tessa Howerzyl back in the fold.
“It’s just about getting everyone comfortable and back in their roles and the flow,” Van Maanen says.
Pregame coverage from Oskaloosa begins at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS and kniakrls.com, with first tip set for 6:15 p.m.
