Pella High basketball came away with their fifth straight sweep of the season on Tuesday, defeating Newton in the boys’-girls’ doubleheader that was live on KNIAKRLS.com. Only three free throws were made between the girls’ team in the first five minutes of the game, but the Lady Dutch turned on the afterburners and blew away the Cardinals, 59 – 35. Ciara Buchheit scored all ten of her points in Pella’s 26-point second quarter to lead the way for the now 8 – 2 Lady Dutch. Pella boys survived a late onslaught by Newton and sank some big free throws late to win, 59 – 48. Coach Mark Core says this was a huge win for his team going forward. The Dutch brought a balanced scoring effort to the table, led by Isaac Naakgteboren’s 16 points and eight rebounds, and Will Warner scored 12. Pella’s boys are now 7 – 2 overall; the ladies are 5 – 0 in the conference while the guys are 3 – 2. Their first trip through the conference concludes this Friday when they head east to face Oskaloosa.
