A strong second half effort allowed the Central men’s basketball team to pick up their second straight victory, defeating Coe on the road, 78 – 75. The Dutch trailed by two at intermission, after being down by as much as 14 with a little under seven minutes to play in the first half. Central had a four-point lead with 20 seconds left, and the Kohawks’ JT Vonderhaar made a three and was fouled by Colby Taylor, but missed the free throw and a second chance opportunity on an offensive rebound. Nile Eckermann led all Dutch scorers with 19 points, and Taylor put up 18 points, as Central, who made 17 three-pointers on the night, improves to 12 – 10 on the year and 5 – 6 in the league. The Dutch women were downed, 62 – 44. Kenzie Vander Molen had eight points for Central, and they’ll travel with the men to Decorah to take on Luther next on Saturday.
