It took awhile for the offense to get going, but Pella High was able to withstand the attack of Daric Laing and TJ Hockenson to beat Chariton last night, 74 – 64, in the Class 3A district final. The Charger duo combined for 47 points, and helped their team get out to a 9 – 0 lead. The Little Dutch were able to settle down, and climbed back into the game, thanks to a much deeper bench. Isaac Naaktgeboren led all Pella scorers with 20, while teammate, Ryan Van Wyk, stepped up big in the second half, scoring all 16 of his points in the final two quarters. The Pella boys improve to 20 – 2 on the season, and they are a game away from state, and must try to defeat Norwalk for the third time this season on Monday at Southeast Polk in the Substate final.
