Central’s basketball teams each suffered another setback in conference play on Wednesday, dropping to visiting Dubuque inside the P.H. Kuyper Gym. Rachel Evans made her return after a long absence due to injury, but could only do so much in a 68 – 52 loss to the Spartans. Evans was put into the starting line-up to try to spark an offensively challenged team, and did her part with a team-high 11 points. However, her teammates shot just 31% from the field, including a bawdy 26% in the first half. Central’s women drop to 9 – 11 overall and remain winless in the Iowa Conference. Dubuque and Central’s men had polar opposite offensive nights in the capper; the Spartans shot 60% from the field for the game, the Dutch made just 37%, and were demolished, 105 – 62. Austin Hauser and Kyle Smith each had 13 points to lead the offensive charge for Central, who falls to 10 – 10 with a 3 – 6 mark in the conference. Central is back at home again this Saturday to play Simpson.
