Pounding Norwalk on Friday, 58 – 40, Pella High’s girls’ basketball team is in the driver’s seat for a league title. They’ve rattled off 14 straight wins, and are 10 – 0 in the conference, thanks to the play of their talented starters and an enviably deep bench. Needing just one win over either Newton or Oskaloosa in the final week of the regular season to clinch an undisputed Little Hawkeye Conference championship, Coach Jerod Garland says his Lady Dutch are focused on clearing a bar they set back in November. The tenth-ranked Pella girls clobbered the Cardinals on the road, 59 – 35, thanks to a 26 – 7 second quarter. They’ll host Newton on Tuesday in a conference doubleheader.
