When the Pella Little and Lady Dutch hear the final buzzers tonight against Newton, they could each walk away with at least a portion of the Little Hawkeye Conference championships locked up. The girls hit the floor first against a Cardinals squad they beat 59-35 last month, but one that has also won three games in a row. The AP just yesterday came out and said the Pella boys are the top dogs in the state in Class 3A, and they beat seven-win Newton with their lowest winning point total of the season 59-48. Their road to Little Hawkeye glory is murkier, but with a win tonight, will at least clinch a share of the conference crown. Coach Mark Core says he has a much better team than the one that played in Newton a month ago, but says they can’t give this one away for free to a team he calls “dangerous.” Our coverage begins at 6 p.m. live from Pella High School on 92.1 KRLS and kniakrls.com, with first tip set for 6:15.
