The Iowa House and Senate have passed the proposed 10 cent per gallon gas tax increase. The Senate first voted 28-21 in favor of the proposal. State Senator Amy Sinclair opposed the bill and had an amendment to sunset the tax in ten years rejected. Senator Ken Rozenboom voted in favor of the increase. The same bill was then voted on and passed by the House 53-46. The measure was bipartisan in both chambers. In the Senate, 16 of 26 Democrats and 12 of 23 Republicans voted for the gas tax increase. In the House, 23 of 43 Democrats and 30 of 56 Republicans supported the proposal. If signed by the Governor, the tax would go into effect March 1st.
