Two outstanding games played between Knoxville and Grinnell last night went to Grinnell. The Tigers took the girls game in a 64-61 shootout. Knoxville jumped out to a 13-4 lead early on but Grinnell closed that gap in the second quarter and neither team led by more than six the rest of the way. Knoxville Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS his team’s intensity was much better than Tuesday night. Ashley Hawkshead led the Panthers, who fall to 17-4 on the season, with 22 points. The Panthers boys lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer when Grinnell took the inbounds pass and raced the length of the floor in 11 seconds to win it as time expired 55-54. Nathan Winters led the Panthers with 21 points. Knoxville is now 12-8 on the season and will host Carlisle in a boy’s only game Monday Night.
