The Pella Christian Eagles had one of their best halves of the season to start the game, but had to hold off a late charge from the Knoxville Panthers in a county rivalry showdown last night, 71-60, in a game heard live on both KNIA and KRLS. The Eagles dropped seven threes in the first half, led by four from Brant Vermeer, to come out to a 42-20 lead by the half. But after a quiet third quarter from both teams, Knoxville came out roaring with big shots from Chase Larson, Trent Davis, and Nathan Winters. But it was Levi Jungling who played hero in the 4th quarter, scoring 11 in the frame to seal it for the Eagles. Pella Christian Head Coach Larry Hessing says he was very impressed with how his team came out in the first half after Tuesday’s five OT thriller against Norwalk. Pella Christian heads back on the road today against Van Meter, with first tip set for 5 p.m. Knoxville is back to action on Tuesday against former Little Hawkeye Conference opponent Dallas Center-Grimes.
