Unexpectedly playing on their home field for the first time this season, the Central baseball team fell to Grinnell yesterday afternoon, 9 – 8. The game was moved from the Pioneers’ field due to unplayable conditions from Tuesday’s rain. Both schools matched numbers until the fifth, when Grinnell put up four runs to take a 6 – 4 lead. The Dutch regained the advantage by plating a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh, thanks to a Ryan Garrett RBI single and a passed ball. However, the Pioneers would tee off on Alex Dornacker after the seventh inning stretch with back-to-back dingers to score three and hold on for the win. Zach Zylstra was 2-for-5 at the dish with a pair of RBI’s and a double. Central now sits with a 4 – 7 record and they begin conference play tomorrow at Wartburg for a doubleheader.
