In his first two games as skipper of the Central baseball team, Matt Schirm was rewarded with two quality wins from his players yesterday over Greenville. The Dutch won 2 – 1 and 10 – 3 in the doubleheader sweep. Greenville got off to a quick 1 – 0 lead in game one, but Central scored two in the third thanks to a Zach Zylstra triple and a subsequent RBI groundout. Blake Judkins pitched six strong innings, with just one run on just five hits while striking out nine and walking none. Dakotah Wolken earned the save with a scoreless ninth. Central’s Andy Carr was just as nasty in the nightcap, allowing an unearned run on four hits in seven innings. Kirby Coppess and Wolken each had three hits, and four others had multi-hit affairs. The Dutch were helped by an eight-run eighth, and they begin the 2015 campaign with a 2 – 0 mark. They will join the softball team down in Tucson, Arizona starting this Sunday for eight games in seven days.
