The Central College softball team went 5-1 over the weekend in a half-dozen games at the Kuyper Athletic Complex, but with sky-high expectations, it’s the one loss that sticks out more than the five wins. The Dutch earned a pair of hard-fought victories over Gustavus on Friday afternoon, made several mistakes in a 2-1 loss to Saint Benedict on Saturday, and then bounced back with a 10-1 win over St. Norbert before picking up two wins yesterday, 6-4 over St. Norbert, again, and 9-1 over St. Scholastica. The Dutch are now 19-6 on the season, which isn’t where Coach George Wares wanted to be after the non-conference portion of the schedule. All 14 of Central’s remaining games will be against Iowa Conference opponents. The first league doubleheader is tomorrow afternoon in Indianola, as the 19th-ranked Dutch will battle 10th-ranked Simpson. You can hear game two of that twinbill at approximately 5:00 tomorrow night at www.kniakrls.com on our KNIA2 stream.
