After their football team brought home a state championship and all of the pomp and circumstance that followed them where they went, the Pella High boys’ basketball team gave their home fans a reason to keep standing up and cheering with the impressive regular season they had which took them to the Class 3A state tournament in Des Moines. Even without much to be excited for in a 19-point, turnover-riddled first half against Cedar Rapids Xavier, the student section and the parents and fans that made the drive Tuesday night were still behind their Dutch. It really was felt after Pella got down by 19, and a quick four points off a bucket, a steal, and a subsequent score brought the Little Dutch faithful to their feet. From that point, Pella’s boys came storming back and got to within one before eventually dropping by four. Coach Mark Core says he’s very grateful for the following that came up to cheer them on, and adds some credit for their second half push can be given to the Dutch supporters. Pella finished the season with a record of 21 – 3.
