Cushman Excavating tore down a Marion County building Monday that was suffering from structural fatigue.

The building, located on 113 & 115 Third Street on the Knoxville Square had been off limits for the better part of two weeks, when a 3 foot high, 6 foot wide hole was discovered at the base of the north wall on March 14th.
Businesses nearby had been closed because of a fear the building would collapse. Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell says those businesses, with the exception of Prudential First of Knoxville Realty, can now reopen.
There will be limited access to Third Street between Main and Robinson. Once the site has been cleared, the street will be opened to through traffic.
