Central’s shutout streak ended after 21 innings, but the winning streak was extended to four for the Dutch softball team yesterday at the Tucson Spring Invitational. In the first game of the day, Kaitlyn Matzen hit a 3-run homer and Karlee Rock ripped a 2-run bomb as the Dutch run-ruled Edgewood of Wisconsin 8-0 in five innings. Trisha Smith and Jaelyn Monhollon combined on the four-hit shutout. Game two saw plenty of offense from the Dutch as they built a 13-0 lead over Crown of Minnesota before holding on to win 13-2 in five innings, as shaky defense allowed two unearned runs to score behind freshman pitcher Annie DeVries. Central is 6-2 on the year, and will face its sternest test in Tucson today, playing Wisconsin-LaCrosse at 11am, Iowa time, and Dennison of Ohio afterwards. You can hear the Wisconsin-LaCrosse game live on www.kniakrls.com, with Trevor Castle calling the action on our KNIA2 stream.
