Their first two games of the season were not without any drama for the Central softball team. The Dutch, under the comforts of the Rochester Dome in Minnesota, split their pair of games with Wisconsin – River Falls and Wisconsin – La Crosse on Friday night. A total of five home runs were jacked in Central’s opener with River Falls, but the fifth was the costliest for the Dutch, as it was a walk-off blast to sink them, 7 – 5. Whitney Sowers had a go-ahead blast in the fifth, and a game-tying RBI single in the seventh to finish the day 2-for-4 at the plate. Mallory Schulenberg took the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits in five-and-two-thirds of an inning while fanning seven. Central hung on in their nightcap with La Crosse, 5 – 4. Central begins their season 1 – 1, and they’ll play a two-fer with Wisconsin – Eau Claire at the same venue later today starting at 10:00 a.m. The two schools’ second match at noon can be heard live on KNIAKRLS.com via the KNIA2 stream with Trevor Castle on the play-by-play.
