The quickness of the Pella High girls’ basketball team was one distinct advantage they had at the beginning of the season. Of their first 12 games they played, they scored less than 50 points just twice in a pair of losses to Carlisle and Ballard, and put up under 60 points three times, all of them wins, scoring 59 against Fairfield, Pella Christian, and Newton. Though their speed carried through and presented challenges for the opposition to guard, Coach Jerod Garland feels that agility carried through to the defensive side of the ball in the second half of their season. There were 11 games where their challengers were held to under 40 points, including a four-game stretch in victories over Dallas Center-Grimes, Grinnell, Knoxville, and Pella Christian at the end of January and into early February. The Lady Dutch went 19 – 3 in the 2014-15 season.
