The Iowa Supreme Court will hear the case between the City of Pella, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the families of two boys who drowned at the Pella Aquatic Center in 2010 on Monday.
It stems from the deaths of 14-year-old Gael Paullette, also known as Gael Chrispin; and 15-year-old Nehmson Sanon after they accidentally drowned during an event held by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the Pella Aquatic Center. The case rises on appeal from the Iowa district court, following its ruling granting in part and denying in part the City’s motion for summary judgment on immunity issues. The issues on appeal center on whether acts or omissions of city employees resulting in violation of pool safety regulations amount to a criminal offense under Iowa law. They will convene in the Creston High School auditorium at 7 p.m.
