Nearly half of all Marion County colon cancer patients are already at Stage III or greater when they are diagnosed, according to statistics on the Iowa Cancer Registry website.

Iowa Department of Public Health’s Jeanna Jones says there are usually great outcomes if cancer is detected early and when it’s found in the later stages, it can be hard to treat. She says that’s why it’s so important for people to get screened and listen to their bodies if something doesn’t feel right.
