When it comes to severe weather, area dispatch offices would like to remind citizens both of when and how to report damage.
Pella Communications Supervisor Marcia Slycord encourages the public to prioritize their calls when contacting their local police department during a severe weather event. Slycord asks the public to avoid calling in for minor damage while a storm is happening to allow lines to stay open for medical emergencies. She says to send damage reports to their office and the National Weather Service after the storm is over. Slycord says Pella’s emergency crews have a long standing relationship with KNIA/KRLS to get necessary information out to the public as soon as it’s available. Tune in this Wednesday during the statewide tornado drill at 10 a.m. for more severe weather safety information. We have more details about reporting damage during a thunderstorm on Let’s Talk Pella.
