Fire has damaged a home in Knoxville, displacing a large family.
Knoxville Fire & Rescue responded to a house fire call just before 10am Wednesday at 817 S. Roche Street.
Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell says eight people live in the home, with four people, a woman and three children, home at the time of the blaze. They all escaped unharmed. There were also two dogs inside, one of which did not survive.
After the fire was put out, crews were seen bringing the children toys and clothes from out of the home.
Mitchell says the house is uninhabitable and the Red Cross has been notified to assist the family in finding temporary housing. He says the fire started in the kitchen but the cause remains under investigation. The house suffered significant smoke damage throughout and burn damage in the kitchen.
Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, the Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Emergency Management, and MidAmerican Energy all responded to the call.
