Brad Engbers has announced that he will not return as Head Coach of the Pella Christian girls basketball team next year.

Engbers took over as Head Coach of the Eagles girls basketball squad during the 2018-2019 season. In his four seasons atop the girls’ basketball program, he compiled a record of 30-63 and reached the semifinals of the Regional Tournament in Class 2A three out of the four years. Engbers is accepting a chaplain position at Vermeer Corporation and says the new career will allow him more opportunities to visit his children who live out of state.

“A lot of it is due to the fact that I have kids that live in different parts of the country. I have adult kids in Washington, Kentucky, and Indianapolis and a career change at this time is going to give me some flexibility in how I can go and visit and be a part of their lives. And the opportunity that I have just seems to match my skill set as well and I’m ready for something new, so I’m looking forward to being part of the chaplain team over at Vermeer.”

Pella Christian Athletic Director Dan Branderhorst said that he is sad that Coach Engbers won’t be returning next year but wishes him the best in his new role at Vermeer. The search for the next Head Coach of the girls basketball program will formally begin on March 21st. Interested candidates for the position are asked to reach out to AD Dan Branderhorst at branderhorstd@pceagles.org.
