After suffering a debilitating injury in week four against Des Moines Christian, Pella Christian Eagles senior running back, Caleb Morgan, was cleared last week by his doctor to resume football activities. In just four games, Morgan racked up 570 yards on the ground on 77 carries, an average of just over seven yards per touch, and also found the end zone six times to help his Eagles squad propel to a 4 – 0 start. In the weeks following his absence, several players have stepped up big to contribute to the running game, including Michael Mason, and more recently, Derek Van Kooten and Mason Howerzyl contributing a total of 242 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help the Eagles snap their two game losing slide with a 58 – 20 victory Friday over Colfax-Mingo. Morgan’s presence was felt on the sidelines, however, as he was dressed and cheering on his teammates. According to Eagles head football coach, Rich Kacmarynski, he’s hoping Morgan can get some playing time this week against a very tough Mount Ayr team. This week’s season finale is at Mount Ayr, and could determine whether the Eagles finish in third place in Class 1A District 7, or stay in fourth place. Friday night’s kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
