As the fall semester comes to a close at Central College, athletics are winding down for the time being, resuming after Christmas. That gives the Central College Radio Coaches Corner a chance to look back at what the fall sports season had to offer. While the football team’s playoff run was the major story of the season, the Central volleyball team made major strides on the court. The Dutch finished the season 17-13 overall, the program’s first winning campaign since 2014. Head Coach Jeanne Czipri says that while there is still room to improve, it is a program that is on the rise.

“Across the board, what we can do with our hitters and with our offense it night-and-day different than what we were able to do three years ago. And I think that’s just a testament to our setters, a testament to our assistant Amy, who does an incredible job with our setters every day, our hitters being a little bit more dynamic, a little bit more athletic, a little bit more versatile. We’re growing, we’re learning, we’re building. You know, Rome wasn’t rebuilt in a day, even though I want to redo it in a week, so it’s learning that lesson of patience but being excited about where we’re going.”

Sophomore Krissa Larson was Central’s honorable mention pick on the all-conference teams after leading the Dutch with 261 kills on the season. The Dutch said goodbye to five seniors, but will see a plethora of returning talent next year.
