At their meeting last week the Pella City Council accepted a contract for work on the diesel plant on the West side of town. The plant is now subject to new regulations on emissions from the EPA and needs to be outfitted with catalytic converters. The council decided the project was worth it, because the city receives money from Missouri River Energy Services to maintain a generating capacity, and those funds pay off the project in just a few years. The plant also serves as a backup energy source for the city in case of a disruption in electricity brought in through Missouri River Energy Services.
