A counterfeit $100 bill was passed at a Pella business earlier this week. The Pella Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News that the phony bill was used to purchase items at a Casey’s General Store and was identified as a fake by a local bank. The bill does feature a picture of Benjamin Franklin and appears normal, though the watermark on the right-hand side of the bill – which is intended to curb counterfeiting – shows the face of Abraham Lincoln.

Pella Police Officer Chad Hardman is investigating, as is the U.S. Secret Service, which is always notified in cases of counterfeit bills. Officer Hardman encourages anyone who suspects they may have a counterfeit bill to contact the Pella Police Department immediately at 628-4921.
