Governor Terry Branstad spoke to KNIA/KRLS during a recent visit to Knoxville and stated he hopes that education funding will be taken care of early in the 2016 Legislative Session.

He said he doesn’t want schools to have to wait until classes are over before being able to make determinations on their budget for the upcoming year. Branstad stated the legislature didn’t appropriate his education funding recommendations for the second year in a row. Some $55 million of one-time funds to schools was agreed upon by both the Iowa House and Senate last session. However, Branstad used an 11th hour, line-item veto on that section of the budget.
