A scam tied to the United States Postal Service has recently been targeting Marion County residents.

Scammers send fake emails with the subject line: USPS Delivery Failure Notification, or a similar variation. The fake email tells the potential victim about an attempted delivery of a package and instructs the individual to click on a link to download either a label, receipt or instructions on how and when to receive their package. The link is actually malicious software that can become embedded into the device on which the email is opened, allowing the software to have access to the victim’s stored sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and financial information. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service warns people if they receive any questionable emails to just delete the message without taking any further action. If you have questions about a delivery or wish to report postal-related spam, contact your local post office.
