Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman reports his department filled out an application for a $25,000 Grant with Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona. Knoxville was awarded a grant last year for battery powered extrication tools from Prairie Meadows.

Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News what the grant request is this year, “This year we’re looking for some training tech training objects for the fire department and the police department can use it. It’s a forcible entry door.”

He added, if approved, the department also has a fire extinguisher training system that the firefighters and community can use to teach proper fire extinguisher use which is all included in the grant request to Prairie Meadows for this year. As of now Knoxville is awaiting word to see if they will get accepted for the grant. Wyman hopes to hear word on the grant request in May or June.

Knoxville also has an AFG (assistant to firefighters) grant submitted for around $300,000 to build a burn building training facility. According to Wyman it is a government grant and he hopes to hear if Knoxville is approved sometime in September. Knoxville hasn’t received a rejection letter, so they are still in play.
