An arrest has been made in a case involving drugs and firearm possession in Bussey. In September 2020, detectives from the Mid Iowa Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at 605 5th Street in Bussey, the home of 61-year-old Stephen Alan Lorenz.

Upon entering, detectives located numerous illegal items, as well as a loaded shotgun. Lorenz admitted that he was not permitted to own the firearm due to previous felony convictions. Also located in a closet were multiple items that contained THC, as well as a substance that Lorenz admitted was psilocybin mushrooms. A pill of oxycodone hydrochloride was located, which Lorenz said was to help cope with pain. Also located was a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday and served Thursday. Bond is set at $5,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for February 18th. Lorenz faces four counts of possession of controlled substance third or subsequent offense, as well as charges for a felon in possession of a firearm.
