Discussion about the City of Pella’s fireworks ordinances is on the agenda of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting today.

The board will discuss potential locations and language for the sale of fireworks. The Pella City Council has already indicated they plan to keep a ban on the use of fireworks and update the definitions of that zoning law to match Iowa Code. At a recent policy and planning session, the council directed the Planning and Zoning Commission to make a recommendation limiting the types of structures and zoning districts where the sale of fireworks can happen during the time when the state allows sales near the 4th of July and New Year’s Day.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. this evening in the Public Safety Complex on Liberty Street.
