Drought conditions are beginning to settle in throughout much of south central Iowa.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, most of Marion County has been rated as having moderate drought conditions. This is the first time since the April 8th, 2014 report that the county has experienced a drought according to the scale proved by the National Drought Mitigation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The latest map released this week shows moderate drought conditions throughout most of Jasper and Monroe Counties as well.
